Dave Davis
President

McHenry County Strength & Sports Center is owned and run by head trainer and strength coach Dave Davis.  Dave is a 1999 graduate of Woodstock High School and a member of the 1997 State Championship football team.   Dave graduated from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, where he majored in Exercise and Sports Science with a concentration in Strength and Conditioning.  He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the NSCA.  Dave has been working with athletes for the past seven years and brings his passion of strength training and sports together in an effort to increase the success of local area athletes.

During his time spent at UW-La Crosse, Dave worked with the Eagles' athletic teams teaching proper lifting techniques and power exercises.  He also spent the previous three years personal training the student body.  In his own time, Dave has competed in and is the 2 time UW-L powerlifting champion in the 165 pound weight class, with his personal bests of a 435 pound squat, 335 pound bench press, and a 525 pound deadlift, topping out at a total of 1295 pounds.  

    Dave has also personal trained locally for the last four years, bringing success and results to his clients while always striving to make programs fun and challenging.  He has worked successfully with many clients, from those searching for weight loss techniques to those interested in gaining muscle mass and strength.  

    Recently, Dave was a trainer at Mercy Acceleration in Janesville, WI.  There he worked with local high school athletes training them in the Frappier Acceleration program.  Dave has now opened his own sports training facility, bringing with him successful methods used with his previous high school, collegiate, and professional level athletes to enhance McHenry County area athletes.  

 

Craig Kastning

Craig is a 1998 graduate of Woodstock High School.  While there Craig was a three sport athlete.  He was selected as a 1st team all-state selection in football and baseball.  He was also a Captain on the 1997 State Championship football team.  Craig graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2002 where he majored in education.  Craig has been working with athletes for over 8 years and is a very excited to share his knowledge of strength and sports to help athletes achieve their individual sporting goals.

 

During his time at IWU, Craig was a 4 year letter winner, 3 year starter, and senior captain for the Fightin’ Titans.  Craig also worked with other Titan athletic teams teaching various lifting techniques and agility exercises.  Craig has spent the past 2 years coaching college football, personal training, and working strength and conditioning camps with college athletes at both Endicott College (Beverly, MA) and Illinois Wesleyan University.

 

Craig was a personal trainer at Gold’s Gym Bloomington for 2 years.  While training there his clients success was outstanding.  He was able to design programs that were effective and enjoyable.  Craig works well with both male and female clientele ranging from senior citizens to competitive athletes. 

 

Craig has completed 2 seasons of professional football in both Italy and Finland.  He was a two way standout for the Bergamo Lions of the Golden League and Lappeenranta Rajaritarit of the SAJL.  He is currently starting his 1st year of arena football with the Bloomington Extreme of the United Indoor Football League and completing his master’s degree in the Kinesiology and Recreation Department at Illinois State University.

 

Craig now joins the staff of McHenry County Strength & Sports Center in hopes to help improve the athletic performance of local athletes as well as help community members to improve in their fitness goals. 

Margie Pottorff
Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor

Margie Pottorff

Margie joined our staff over a year ago to help improve athlete's performance as well as the health and wellness of the community. In addition to being a speed and agility coach she also provides personal training and group fitness classes. Her specialty is in strength training and step aerobics.

 

Margie is a 1996 graduate of Crystal Lake South High School and a 2000 graduate of Indiana University. She graduated with a bachelors degree in health science and is continuing education in exercise science. She also has a certification from AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America).

 

She focuses on making exercise fun and educational!
